St. Margaret of Scotland
Grand Mira
The church was originally built as a small log chapel named St. Peter as population grew so did the parish.
Some of the original settlers in the Grand Mira area were Campbells, Currys, Gillis, MacArthurs, MacCormicks, MacDonalds, MacDougalls, MacLellan, MacMullins, MacPhees and many more.
In October 1871, Grand Mira opened the present day church of St. Margaret of Scotland with Fr. Archibald Chisholm as the first resident parish priest.
It replaced the log chapel named St. Peter, that was built circa 1833.
The lumber posts for St. Margaret's Church were taken from Glengarry, Cape Breton.
The four wooden altars were put in the church between 1920-1924
In 1996 the parish of St. Margaret of Scotland celebrated it's 125 anniversary.
St. Margaret's Ladies Auxillary has a beautiful window ornament or hanging Christmas ornament made in pewter to support the church.
Anyone with roots in Grand Mira, or who would be interested in the above pewter ornament can order these pewter ornament for the low cost of $15.00 Canadian each.
